Skilled Physical Therapy Services

At Alexander Spine Center, your physical therapy journey begins with a comprehensive evaluation of your functional limitations, areas of pain, and personal goals. Dr. David Schumann, our Doctor of Physical Therapy, will design a customized treatment plan tailored to your occupation, daily activities, and lifestyle.

We believe in a team approach — collaborating with your primary physician when needed — to ensure the most effective care. Our goal is to help you return to your normal activities as quickly and safely as possible.

Upon discharge, you’ll receive a personalized home exercise program so you can continue making progress, maintain your results, and reduce the risk of future injury.

Who We Treat

We welcome patients of all ages and fitness levels — from newborns with torticollis to older adults with balance issues and everyone in between. Whether you were injured on the job or hurt in an auto accident, our physical therapist will perform a thorough postural and biomechanical assessment to pinpoint the source of your problem and guide your recovery.

Therapeutic Exercise

Therapeutic exercise is a cornerstone of our care. Dr. Schumann will teach you targeted exercises to help:

  • Reduce pain and symptoms over time
  • Improve flexibility, strength, and endurance
  • Enhance overall health, fitness, and well-being

Benefits include:

  • Increased mobility
  • Improved joint function and circulation
  • Better balance, coordination, and respiratory capacity
  • Reduced muscle tightness and rigidity

Types of therapeutic exercise we provide:

  • Endurance training – to improve stamina and cardiovascular health
  • Resistance training – to build strength and stability
  • Flexibility training – to restore range of motion and prevent injury

Manual Therapy

Manual therapy is a hands-on approach used to assess, diagnose, and treat musculoskeletal pain and movement dysfunction. Dr. Schumann applies precise techniques to help restore joint mobility, reduce pain, and improve overall function.

Goals of Manual Therapy include:

  • Relieving joint stiffness and muscle tightness
  • Improving range of motion
  • Reducing pain and inflammation
  • Enhancing circulation and tissue healing
  • Restoring optimal movement patterns

Manual Therapy Techniques We Use:

  • Joint Mobilization & Manipulation – Gentle, targeted movements to restore joint play and alignment
  • Soft Tissue Mobilization – Hands-on techniques to release tight muscles, fascia, and scar tissue
  • Myofascial Release – Reducing restrictions in connective tissue to improve flexibility and function
  • Manual Stretching – Assisted stretching to safely increase range of motion

Manual therapy is often combined with therapeutic exercise to speed up recovery and help you achieve lasting results. By addressing both the source of pain and the surrounding contributing factors, we help you return to work, sports, and daily life with less pain and better movement.

Our mission is to help you reach the highest level of physical function possible — without unnecessary invasive procedures — so you can get back to living life on your terms.
